One of the main attractions of the Costa del Sol is its atmosphere and its people. One of the best ways to discover both is by walking through its markets.
And there is no other place on the coast like the municipality of Mijas, which has numerous markets and locations, each hiding a different idiosyncrasy.
To travel without any worries and without any setbacks, we recommend hiring a cheap car at the Málaga Airport for your convenience.

Markets in Mijas Pueblo
Our route through Mijas Costa begins in the picturesque place of Mijas Pueblo. The perfect example of a white Andalusian village, where it seems that the traditional will never disappear and where its charm remains as intact as its magic.
On Wednesdays from 10:00 to 14:00, visit the Plaza de la Virgen de la Peña to buy some gifts and souvenirs from the local craft market. Here you will find Mijas Pueblo souvenirs, leather goods, and many more handcrafted items.
Special mention deserves the Christmas Market in the village, which brings together local merchants to offer their products, from Christmas decorations to souvenirs. Although the true stars of the market, held in the Plaza de la Constitución, are the delicious homemade food products. You won’t be able to resist the chocolates or millefeuille, among many others.
Markets in Mijas Costa
We continue our journey through Mijas, leaving Mijas Pueblo behind and delving into Mijas Costa. The first stop on our week of markets is at the Urbanización Calypso, where the classic weekly market takes place every Thursday. In these markets, which run along the coast and various towns, there is fresh fruit and vegetables, as well as nuts, clothing, and even cosmetics and perfumes.
Two days later, we have an appointment in the Las Lagunas area. Specifically, we are going to its Fairgrounds, where the market is open to visitors from 9:00 in the morning. However, it is not a good idea to visit this market at the end of June, as the Las Lagunas fair takes place then, and there will be no market.
On Sundays, we have a double appointment in the Mijas town. Our recommendation is to start where you left off, at the Las Lagunas fairgrounds, in case you want to buy something you had your eye on, as the market is held again.
The second mandatory appointment on Sunday is at the Urbanización Calypso, in the parking lot of the Centro Comercial Valdepinos. From 9:00 in the morning until 14:00, the flea market of second-hand items takes place there. A true meeting point for curious people and treasure seekers. Go with an open mind and you will find true gems.
Markets in La Cala de Mijas
Our last stop is in La Cala de Mijas, a town where the traditional and the more youthful and dynamic mix, creating a great atmosphere both during the day, with some of the best beaches in Mijas Costa, and at night.
If you visit La Cala in summer, we recommend walking along its Promenade and checking out its night market, with accessories, books, and much more. Its stalls will be open every day until September 30, from 18:30 to midnight.
The market arrives at La Cala on Wednesdays and Saturdays in its Fairgrounds. It is the same market we already know, where fruit, vegetables, and other local products are the center of attention.
On the same days, although this time the last Wednesdays and Saturdays of each month, we can take a stroll through the Plaza de la Tenencia de Alcaldía, with its solidarity tables, where the proceeds from the purchase of its products will go to charitable causes.
In this same square, on Fridays, the Craft Market is held, from 10 in the morning until 14:00, a time to try some of the most popular restaurants in Mijas. The handmade items, such as decorations and accessories, will be a fantastic memory of your visit to La Cala and Mijas.
To end our prolific visit to La Cala, we hope your visit coincides with the second and last Sunday of each month, because in the Bulevar de La Cala their Organic Market takes place, with the freshest products from the area.
