History of the Córdoba Bullfighting Museum
In the heart of Plaza Maimónides lies a piece of the history of Córdoba and bullfighting. The Bullfighting Museum began its history in 1983, when it was installed in a palace house in the Jewish Quarter of Córdoba. Its Mudejar architecture, location, and function make it one of the most popular buildings in Córdoba.
It makes use of every possible means to convey bullfighting history to everyone in a simple and clear way. From sculptures to paintings, through engravings, photographs, or bullfighting costumes, among other objects.

In this 16th-century stately mansion, homage is paid to the so-called five caliphs of bullfighting: Lagartijo, Guerrita, Machaquito, Manolete, and Manuel Benítez, El Cordobés. After a thorough renovation of its facilities, the Córdoba Bullfighting Museum opened its doors on April 1, 2014, as we know it today.
Exhibition of the Córdoba Bullfighting Museum
These are the exhibitions and displays that the Córdoba Bullfighting Museum offers; move freely with us through its halls.
“Córdoba, a city with a bullfighting aroma” is the starting point, where we are informed of all the bullfighting places of interest in Córdoba, such as monuments, shops, or the bullring in Córdoba.

“The bull, bullfighting, and bullfighting culture”, full of images and a strong audiovisual component, serves as a prelude to everything we will see next throughout the Córdoba Bullfighting Museum.
On the first floor, we find “The bull’s landscape”, where a projection takes us to a pasture, as well as learning about the objects and techniques of this type of livestock. The next room is one of the most famous and visited: “Five caliphs, five universes”, where the lives of the five greatest bullfighters connected in one way or another to the city of Córdoba are reviewed.

The next room of the Córdoba Bullfighting Museum is a tribute to the eternal love affair between the city of Córdoba and the world of the bull: “A long history: Córdoba and bullfighting”.
Back on the ground floor, “Bullfighting culture: artistic inspiration” immerses us in the world of the bull through art, in many of its expressions; from paintings to goldsmithing, sculptures, or ceramics. The Córdoba Bullfighting Museum also has a temporary exhibition hall. We recommend checking their website for all the necessary information.

Our last stops in the Córdoba Bullfighting Museum are the media library and the newspaper archive. These rooms are reserved for those dedicated to research and the study of bullfighting.
