Yunquera is a town located in the east of the province Malaga and extends from Peñón de los Enamorados and el Tajo de la Caina, in the Sierra de las Nieves, (Mountains of snow) up to the incorporation of the rivers Rio Grande and Jorox. It occupies a privileged place in the heart of the Sierra de las Nieves. The city has the largest area in the world of Pinsapar.
It seems to be sure that Yunquera was founded by the Roman, and its Latin name was Juncaira. Some evidence of Roman settlements, the villages and the two bridges can still be seen on the road to the town of Ronda. The Name of Junquera comes from the large collection of reed (junco) that existed at this area. This gives us an idea of the abundance of natural water, which extends up into the mountains. There was also a Berber settlement, after the Visigoth Christians had lived in those countries.
