Villanueva del Rosario is located in the province of Malaga, Andalusia. In the northeast of the province, situated in the district of Nororma and in the judicial district of Archidona. It has rural character, is mountainous and lies on the river bed of the river Guadalhorce.
The climate is generally mild, although there are strong rise in winter and freezing winds, because of the high location.
Not to forget, the abundant rain in spring and autumn. Among the many highlighs, we find El Chorro, a natural spring, very attractive to visitors, and the field "Hondonero" where you can enjoy a peaceful day in nature; And the various huts and caves, like the "Malnombre"in the cave and rock paintings have been found.
The city has a network of roads with lots of charm, very irregular, with many slopes that lead into small squares, with a unique Andalusian style.
Romans settled in the bays of its rivers, where they found coins of this time, on which the head of "Constantino" was coined. Of the Arabs siege remained some graves and rests of buildings. The present town was founded in the beginning to the 18th century and was called "Puebla del Saucedo" (village of the willow), because of the abundance of pasture.
From the Neolithic many objects were found, such as axes, fragments of ceramics, burials, etc. To the west of Cortijo del Tardon, one kilometer away, there is a burial ground, hidden in crevices in which a large number of corpses were found from the Neolithic period.
