Sayalonga is a spanish town in the province of Málaga, situated in Axarquía. In the municipal area of Sayalonga, in the north, you find the urban district Corumbela, with a neighbourhood of 300 habitants, which accounts 20 percent of the town residents, distributed in Carraspite.
Although since centurys diferent civilisations passed through Sayalonga, leaving their tracks, you still find prehistoric characters, outlast the Roman and Arabian, etc.
Origin of Sayalonga is, without question, arabic, although we don´t know the exact historic moment of foundation. On the other hand exist documents which attest the presence of the Roman or Visigoths, and the history discloses specifications of the Christian troops victory. The Roman saw in Sayalonga a great place to cultivate products of vegetables, therefor using the river to water the plants and the great clima. They made use some terraces beside the river, which were designed by the phoenician and based on its construction it wasn´t necesary to shade.
Another highlight is the perfect conservation of some arabic monuments, like the minaret Corumbela, constructed in the 12th century.
All visitors who walk through the historic city of Sayalonga feel like in an arabic place, because of its character, its silence and the brilliant white walls, which gives the emotion that time stood still. In between of lots nice streets, the Callejón de la Alcuza is a highlight, because it is, on its smallest point, only 50 cm wide.
