Mollina is a village in the district of Antequera, Málaga province and the autonomy of Andalusia. The landscape is slightly hilly, only difference provides the Sierra de la Camorra. The many vineyards produce grapes for the popular wines of designated origin.
The first inhabitants came already to this area in the Neolithic Age, like findings prove, discovered in the Sierra de la Camorra. The origin of villa de Mollina can not be specified exactly. The name comes from the Latin mollis, "soft ", which is attributed to the light rains that fall on the fields. There are no records from the Middle Ages, only the remains of a watchtower in the Cerro de la Fuente, whose foundations are circular. Its location at the foot of the Sierra Camorra, near the source of Santillan, is not considered as the old town center, as the present town is four miles away.
