Estepona is an important touristic village of the west Costa del Sol, which conserved the architectural style of typical andalusian villages. Situated between the sea and the mountains, it offers a wide and varied range of possibilities that goes far beyond the sun and the beach. Its history and culture, sports- und recreation infrastructure and its beautiful and rich natural environment, with Natural parks like Los Reales in the Sierra Bermeja are distinguished characters.
Estepona was already inhabited during the prehistoric period, tools and arms of stone were discovered along the arroyo Vaquero (stream) in the west of the city.
The earliest history of Estepona, is dominated by the Phoenicians, Romans and Arabs, reflected on monuments and sites in urban areas, discovered in its city, like the towers which are built along the coast of Estepona, at the stream Arroyo Vaquero.
Near the Plaza de Toros (bullring), in the Street “calle Matías Prats”, you can also find some museums of Estepona: the archaeological, the taurino, the paleontologic and the etnologic.
