The center of Cuevas de San Marcos is located in the district of Antequera Guadalteba, on the northern border in the mountains of Malaga. His village is situated on a hill that reaches down to the river bed of the river Genil, which limits the provinces of Malaga and Cordoba, developed by geological imprints since the age of Jura. It is a place with a predominantly agriculture, particularly the cultivation of olives, with the production of olive oil "Hojiblanca".
Cuevas de San Marco existed even before the Roman inhabited in this area. Ptolomeos wrote in his geographical records of the village Belda, already in 298 BC. During his siege Belda was the richest village in the Bética. There were discovered some finds, such as a bronze coffin, urns and coins of the Imperial Roman times.Less known, but of great interest, is a cave called Cueva Belda, located in the northern mountain wall of the place. It belongs to the mountains of the region “Sierra del Camorro ", consisting of limestone and marl from the Jurassic period with a height of 907 m. In the cave there are at least three lakes, many tunnels and over a length of miles many stalactites, formed over decades.
