Colmenar is situated between the districts of Axarquía and the famous Montes de Málaga and is popular for its big varity of culinary in a big amount of tipical bars and restaurants. Also unforgettable the majesty overlooking of the Mediterranean sea and the coast of Málaga , especially in warm summer nights.

In the north it offers a countryside with mountains and in the south the olive plantations.
The district of Colmenar extends from the Sierra de los Camorolos and Jobo, where you find the mountain peaks of Chamizo, Pelado, Sierra Prieta, Aguila, Ballesteros.

Until the end of XV century and beginning XVII century, Colmenar didn´t have enough habitants. The first were some farm buildings in Colmenar, which were sold from Hamet el Zuque, ex mayoral mussulman of Comares.

On the hilltop, the highest part, you find the chapel of Nuestra Señora de la Candelaria, patron of the village. From this place you have a viewpoint over Tajos de Gómer and Doña Ana, Sierra Tejeda and on the right side, the Sierra Nevada. Archaeological point of interest is the casco urbano (old centre) with diferent caves like the famous Chivos, la Pulsera and the mine of Caravaca (mina de Caravaca).
