Geografic location:
The city of Benahavís is situated in the province of Málaga, Andalusia,
about 7 km away from the coast. The village of Benahavís, is situated in the mountains. Geografically situated between Marbella, Estepona and Ronda. Known as the dinig room of the Costa del Sol, because of its varity of Restaurants and Bars. Benahavís is one of the white villages, typical in Andalusia, with a notable history of Arabs.
The castle of Montemayor, offers a spectacular view of the Costa del Sol. The village accomodate 9 Golf-courses, Benahavís is a paradise for the friends of golf.
Situated in the south of the Serranía de Ronda, it is the village with the most hills on the westside of the Costa del Sol.

Benahavís derives from the Arabic “Ben”= son (original meaning), and “Avis or Havis”, which was the name of an Arab, who reigned in Monte-mayor Castle. This son hat the idea to build defenses to protect the river Gua¬dal¬¬mina at his access Las Angos¬tu¬ras and the same time in the left flank of the castle, which was the first city of the population. This means that the construccion of the castle Montemayor was before building Benahavís. Another opinion says that the Word Benahavís dreives from Ben Habix, sons of the abyssinian, because of having established a cadi, the same nacionality, in this area.

When King Mohammed of Granada saw his Crown in danger in 1273, he asked for help of the Benimerines, which occupied Marbella, the castle of Montemayor and Málaga in 1274, under direction of Abu Yusuf Jacub, it discovered an immense strategic value of the castle, from which they controlled more than l00 kilometers of the coast of Spain and parts of the African coast.
