Alora is a municipality in the province of Malaga and is situated in the valley of Guadalhorce and in the judicial district of Malaga. In time of the roman Alora was the "Iluritanum municipality", as derived from the discovery of remains and grave stones, including a cylindrical monolith, a single piece, about fifty inches in diameter and about one meter high.
His story has fallen into obscurity over the time. The discovery of cave paintings in the Cueva de Doña Trinidad Grund, about 12 miles away and stone tools found in Hoyo del Conde, a few miles from the city, come from the Stone Age, and provide informations, that already early primitive clans established in this area.
They left a wealth of hunting tools and other resources that were necessary for sustaining life. The Phoenicians, people of merchants, found in this valley optimal conditions for the development of their business and laid the foundation stone for the castle, which became one of the most important monuments of the city.
