What to see and do on a trip to the Costa del Sol

There are many places to visit and lots of activities do on the Costa del Sol, one of the most popular tourist destinations in the province of Malaga. Here, we will tell you which are the most visited places and the best plans for you to enjoy the Costa del Sol to the max.

Typical towns to visit on the Costa del Sol

Genalguacil

This town is one place you can’t miss if you visit Costa del Sol. Some people consider this place to be one of the most beautiful towns in Andalusia with its white-washed streets and location right in the heart of Serrania de Ronda. Its landscape is so wonderful that it doesn’t matter which angle you see it from, and it sits less than 1 hour from the coast.

Genalguacil has another great attraction, and is unsurprisingly called “the museum town” given that, for several years, numerous artists have filled its streets, entire squares and every corner with their paintings and you can see them as you stroll through it. It is one of the best towns to visit on the Costa del Sol.

Frigiliana

Frigiliana is one of the towns you have to add to your list of ‘what to see on the Costa del Sol’, practically all the streets are pure white, full of flowers and pretty alleyways. Frigiliana has narrow winding streets with endless staircases flanked by geraniums that intertwine like a Moorish heritage of what once was and that the passage of time has left throughout its old town. It is considered one of the best-preserved towns in Malaga.

Beaches to enjoy on the Costa del Sol

Cabopino Beach

Undeniably, Cabo Pino beach is one of the best beaches on the Costa del Sol, with clean sand, a dune park behind it and no buildings that can spoil the view. It is considered one of the most beautiful landscapes of the entire coast as a backdrop. The entire area surrounding the beach is known as the Artola-Cabopino Dunes.

Botanical gardens on the Costa del Sol

La Concepción

Another great recommendation while on holiday on the Costa del Sol is the botanical park, which is located at the entrance to Malaga. This is a park that will surprise you as you enjoy a jungle with waterfalls, a giant bamboo forest and incredible viewpoints.

Throughout the gardens you will walk through several routes called “of the senses” as they play with the sound of water, the colours of tropical flowers, you will be dazzled with the come and go of the branches of the trees and all of the viewpoints that are there for you to enjoy.

Castles on the Costa del Sol

Colomares Castle

One of the things to see on the Costa del Sol that you can’t miss is the Colomares Castle, many people consider this place one of the most photogenic and original places you will see on the Costa del Sol. It is worth mentioning that the Colomares Castle is a tribute to Columbus for his feat in the discovery of America. In 1987 Mr. Esteban Martin put up the money and, with the help of a team of masons, built this huge structure using bricks, cement, picks and shovels.

As well as visiting these places, there are also activities to do on the Costa del Sol where you can enjoy different landscapes and discover different places, which are not exactly buildings, but natural settlements where you can connect with nature.

Things to do on the Costa del Sol and its surroundings

Benalmadena Cable Car

The Benalmadena cable car is another must-see on the Costa del Sol, and has always been a classic summer destination in Malaga. The ride to the top of Mount Calamorro is over 700 meters high, perfect for those adrenaline-loving tourists.

While you are there you will enjoy the best views of the Costa del Sol and, on clear days, you will be able to see all of the Atlas Mountains and the coast of Africa. Another great attraction is the birds of prey exhibition right at the top of the Calamorro.

Tour with kayaking at Cerro Gordo Cliffs Natural Park

During this tour you will be able to experience the natural beauty of the Maro-Cerro Gordo cliffs, while snorkelling and kayaking.
